- The Nation’s First turns 373 years young.
On Dec. 13, 1636 the first Massachusetts militia units were organized into the North Regiment and the National Guard was born.
373 years later the Massachusetts National Guard is still defending our nation. Massachusetts National Guardsmen are serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere throughout the world.
To celebrate our 373rd year the Guard has some events planned. Here is the official logo to mark the occasion.
Last year during the 372nd birthday the Mass Guard celebrated its birthday by responding to the Great Ice Storm of 2008. More than 1000 Guard members deployed throughout Massachusetts residents by clearing roadways of debris and delivering much needed relief supplies.
